ORA Technologies Secures Record $7.5 Million Series A, Powering Morocco's Superapp Ambitions

Moroccan superapp ORA Technologies has successfully closed its Series A funding round, securing $7.5 million. The investment was led by Azur Innovation Fund, with participation from three additional strategic local investors.

This latest infusion of capital brings ORA’s total local fundraising efforts since January 2023 to a remarkable $11.9 million, underscoring robust confidence in the Moroccan tech ecosystem's ability to support its indigenous innovations.

Founded in 2023 by Omar Alami, the ORA application is designed as a versatile platform, offering a range of functionalities aimed at simplifying daily digital interactions.

Its features currently include peer-to-peer (P2P) transactions, an integrated e-commerce platform, a suite of on-demand services, and a chat function. A key upcoming addition is a digital wallet, set to launch soon, further enhancing its comprehensive offerings.

This significant funding round is earmarked to bolster ORA's operational capabilities, specifically focusing on expanding its last-mile delivery services. Furthermore, a critical portion of the investment will be dedicated to fortifying the company's digital cash collection infrastructure, a strategic move to optimize financial operations within the Moroccan market.

Notably, this Series A follows a successful $1.9 million Pre-Series A funding round that ORA Technologies secured just four months prior, led by Witamax and Azur Innovation Fund, demonstrating consistent investor interest and growth momentum.

ORA Technologies is actively involved in Morocco's dynamic retailtech and fintech sectors. The company is strategically positioned to capitalize on the rapid growth of the Moroccan food delivery and mobile wallet markets.

Its food delivery application, "Kooul," has garnered significant traction, recording over 15,000 active clients in the past ten months.

This success is attributed to its competitive pricing and a fair economic model that benefits both restaurants and riders. Concurrently, "ORA Cash," the company's universal mobile wallet, has seen impressive adoption, accumulating over 50,000 accounts in just five months.

This platform allows users to open a payment account in 15 seconds and facilitates free and instant money transfers. "ORA Cash" is also being increasingly utilized by riders to digitize the pervasive "cash on delivery" business model across Morocco, addressing a key market need.

Omar Alami, Founder of ORA Technologies, expressed pride in this achievement, stating, "This landmark achievement shows a strong commitment from local investors to the local startup ecosystem.

It proves that local funding alternatives exist for later stages and encourages Moroccan founders to raise more money locally to scale up." He affirmed the company's plan to "accelerate our last-mile business and strengthen our digital cash collection capabilities."

Alami emphasized ORA as a "100% Made in Morocco journey," poised to explore both local and international growth opportunities.

He also highlighted the recent surge in interest from international and local VCs in the Moroccan tech ecosystem, particularly since the Moroccan Sovereign Fund “Fonds Mohammed VI pour l’investissement” began supporting local tech initiatives, viewing it as a unique empowerment opportunity for Moroccan founders.
